Senior Data Platform Engineer - Microsoft Fabric & Azure
Since its foundation in 1925, DEKRA has been ensuring the safety of human interaction with technology and the environment through a tradition of innovative thinking. This approach is something we strive to embrace, whether it's in the practical tasks our employees perform or in the community-shaping office life.
In just two years, DEKRA Technology & Services has grown from a concept to a rapidly growing company that is a cornerstone of the parent company's global IT infrastructure.
Purpose of the Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Data Platform Engineer to join our Compose Data Fabric team. In this role, you will combine strong data engineering, platform engineering, and technical data architecture skills to help build a production-ready enterprise data platform and deliver concrete business data products.
The focus is designing and implementing data platform capabilities with Microsoft Fabric and Azure cloud foundation services.
You will work closely with data engineers, data analysts, platform and infrastructure teams, security stakeholders, and data domain owners to help turning the target platform architecture into production-ready implementation. You will also contribute directly to delivering data products and business use cases on the platform.
Your contribution to achieving global safety, security, and sustainability:
- Contribute to the planning and build-out of a robust enterprise data platform that meets real business needs and can scale into a fully production-ready operating model.
- Build and maintain secure, scalable data pipelines and shared, reusable platform components using Microsoft Fabric, core data microservices and Azure native services.
- Deliver business and data domain demands on the platform by implementing demand-specific data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and reporting components.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions together with analysts, data engineers, business requestors, and relevant stakeholders.
- Define and apply reusable engineering patterns for MS Fabric workspaces, shared services, and platform integration.
- Contribute to the stability, scalability, and continuous improvement of the platform as it evolves toward enterprise maturity.
- Support the implementation of robust engineering practices and structured delivery processes across the platform lifecycle.
- Help turn project delivery experience into reusable platform patterns, standards, and long-term improvements.
The more points that apply to you, the more you can earn with us:
- Owning skills at least 6+ years’ of hands-on experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or enterprise data platform implementation, strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, pipelines, notebooks, and semantic models, solid experience with Azure services and cloud foundations for enterprise data platforms, strong skills in data pipelines, transformation workflows, and analytical data modeling.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python; PySpark or distributed processing experience is a plus.
- Experience with CI/CD, Git-based delivery, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- Strong technical judgment, ownership, and the ability to work effectively across engineering and business teams.
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Business Informatics, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Strong English communication skills at B2-C1 level, as you will work in a multinational team where documentation, delivery artifacts, and day-to-day communication are in English.
- Experience building enterprise data platform capabilities or shared platform services for internal consumers, not only project-specific pipelines.
- Exposure to other modern data architectures such as Azure-native services, Databricks, or event-driven patterns.
- Familiarity with Azure networking, private connectivity, managed identities, and Key Vault.
- Understanding of production-readiness topics such as monitoring, release processes, recovery, and platform operations.
- Familiarity with Power BI and business-facing analytical use cases.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
- Pragmatic mindset, strong ownership, and the ability to balance platform quality with delivery speed.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Believing that the whole is more than the sum of its parts: a.k.a. teamwork is essential to move forward
- Being eager to share knowledge across departments and being open to acquire knowledge from others too
- Taking education and self-development as a fundamental part of your routine
- Thinking that a workplace is not just a place to work, but a social environment as well
